Adding aromatic cedar garland to your home for the holidays is the ultimate way to bring the outdoors in. Capture the fragrance, warmth and cozy feeling of Christmas with fresh and faux cedar garlands with my designer tips!

‘Tis the season to search for Christmas greens and greenery garlands but don’t worry, I have done all of the research and work for you! As a former event designer who spent countless holiday seasons decorating stadiums, offices and ballrooms for the holiday season, I have curated my favorite fresh, faux and pre-lit garlands to decorate every nook and cranny of your home with tips to make them flawless!

The Ultimate Fresh and Faux Cedar Garland Guide

I appreciate the practicality of permanent botanicals like high quality faux wreaths and garlands, there is just something special about fresh. The movement, drape and fragrance cannot be duplicated – but I have sourced some options that easily fool the eye!

I often use a combination of fresh and faux greenery to decorate for the holidays for longevity. This allows me to photograph rooms as they are decorated and prolong the joy! It makes faux look even more fresh!

Cedar trees (along with pine trees), are often used interchangeably with the term “evergreen”. There are technically four different species of cedar trees, with subtypes falling into each species. True cedar trees are coniferous, widely beloved for their spicy fragrance, strong wood, and evergreen, spiral foliage.

Did you know that most cedar that is commercially used for holiday garlands is considered a “false cedar”? They aren’t a true genus of cedar trees. The most popular cedars used in garlands are Incense Cedar and Western Red Cedar. These are both native to the Pacific Northwest and help create a spectacular fragrance and style in your home! Cedar adds warmth, fragrance and beauty.

Where to Use Cedar Garland

Cedar is wispy, resulting in a lovely full drape that is effortless to install almost anywhere you want to add color, texture and fragrance in your home.
