In leadership, it’s easy to treat missed meetings as isolated events—customer issues pop up, priorities shift, and something gets bumped.
But when this happens more than occasionally, it’s no longer an exception—it’s a signal.
In a conversation with my executive coaching client, a startup CEO, she shared that her Friday C-team meetings often got postponed to the weekend, stacking awkwardly against Monday kickoffs.
That’s not sustainable.
When reschedules happen over 10–15% of the time, it’s time to build a more resilient schedule.
Maybe that means shifting meetings to Tuesday and Friday so the rhythm holds—even when Friday gets disrupted. The same applies to recurring one-on-ones. If they’re planned weekly but happen monthly, the calendar is lying to you (and your team).
A resilient schedule reflects reality, not wishful thinking. It respects your time and your relationships by offering structure that holds, even in a storm.
So take a hard look: What keeps getting pushed? And how can you adapt instead of pretending the old plan still works?
