Video Transcript:
Our new podcast, “Mastering Workplace Culture,” is now live on all your favorite platforms. Each week, we bring you unfiltered conversations with leaders who’ve transformed their organizations from the inside out. Our guests are practitioners — not theorists — who have navigated breakdowns, made bold decisions and built environments where respect, clarity, and accountability drive tangible results.
Here are two insightful clips from our discussions with Garry Ridge, former CEO and current Chairman Emeritus of the WD-40 Company, and Katelyn Taylor, Director of Marketing Communications at Boise State University.
In the first clip, Garry describes how creating accountability with the maniac pledge eliminated finger-pointing across WD-40. Everyone in the organization took this pledge: “I am responsible for taking action, asking questions, getting answers and making decisions. I won’t wait for someone to tell me if I need to know. I have no right to be offended that I didn’t get this sooner.”
In Katelyn’s clip, she describes feeling like she should know how to fix a toxic culture — yet few leaders are taught how. “I was in a really rough space because I felt like this was something I should know how to do as a leader. One of the biggest gifts I’ve gotten personally through this process is that I feel more equipped.”
She added, “Isn’t it amazing how respect fuels results, that once you define and align to and hold people accountable to those defined behaviors, deliverables kind of take care of themselves?”
We have more great guests and their actionable insights coming up in the weeks ahead. New episodes — video, audio and short reels — launch each Tuesday on our YouTube channel and on all major podcast platforms.
